First things first its full speed ahead to the 18th of June 2011, put it in your diary, this will be the date of the 50th Lesmahagow Highland Games!
The meeting was again well attended by committee members and general members of the public, I think I can say that there is a good feeling right now about the games. It is going to take loads of hard work and loads of fundraising which we hope the whole of the Gow will get behind, but I am sure the 50th Highland Games in will be a success.
Conveners were set up for the various aspects of the games, a fundraising committee was also set up and various fundraising events will be organised in the near future, decisions were made regarding this years Chieftain, Queen, Princesses & Clansmen it was decided by a vote at the meeting that last years Queen and court would be given the opportunity to stay on for another year and hopefully we can give them the day out that they expected last year. It was also decided that Dr Islam should again be invited to take the role of Chieftain of the 2011 games, we should be able to confirm these positions in the near future.
It is also the intention of the new committee to bring back the crowning day on the Saturday before the Games, which will be on the 18th of June next year therefore the crowning day will be on the 11th. It is also the intention of the committee in conjunction with other local groups to bring back the civic week, again this should be confirmed shortly.
Many Fundraising events were highlighted and anything will be considered, so if you have any ideas the committee is willing to listen, especially from local organisations who would like to have joint fundraiser as I think we can all help each other.
The first Lesmahagow Highland Games fundraiser, will be held in the Jubilee Hall on the 23rd of October, its local band Fuse, it should be a fantastic night, cheap bar prices and buffet for only £6 per ticket. Tickets should be available soon from Rollo's Cafe in the Village and other outlets, keep checking local press for details.
The next meeting of the committee shall be in Bertrams at 7.30pm on Wednesday the 20th of October, so if you have some good ideas please come along and share them, see you there.
